Who / What are Tertiaries?

Tertiaries are joined to two communities:

  • they are members of the community of tertiaries
  • they are associated with the community of canons regular

Tertiaries are “received” into the community:

  • during evening prayer, on a date of importance to the Norbertine (third) Order - All Saints of the Norbertine Order 13th November

Tertiaries make promises… in public and before the prelate:

  • after the first year of membership in the tertiary community
    (temporary promises)
  • the tertiary receives an identifying symbol of membership
  • after a further one to three years after making temporary promises
    (perpetual promises)
